Free the Politicians
Our politicians are not the problem. It is the system we put them in. We need to build a better system.
Free the Politicians
Imagine a vocation whose practitioners:
Are blamed for everything that goes wrong
Must work long hours with too much travel
Must pay large work-related expenses
Are limited to working for two organizations
Must endure a lengthy campaign just to land a job
This is the lot of American politicians. Folks, our politicians are not the problem. It is the system we put them in. The politicians we know work hard for their constituents and communities. Most could make more money with less hassle doing something else.
We Need Candidates
If I may speak to the politicians in the audience:
We need social conservatives and social liberals. We need to win in the primaries of both parties with candidates who will cut most corporate tax loopholes, untangle the regulation mess, and tax the rich. Regulatory reform is our key local issue because we need to get things done. #1 Affordable housing. We need to make decisions faster at all levels of government.
Capitalism works best when the rules favor the people. Our economy is out of balance, let’s move the pendulum towards the people.
Our job is to help you win elections without donor class dollars. Our members back their favorite candidates with votes, social media, messages to friends, and donations.
If you are committed to economic reform, you are invited to post on our site. It could be a campaign profile or a reform proposal.
We need advice from experienced politicians to answer questions like: How can we best help you win elections? Also: What reforms do you champion? How can we streamline regulations? Would campaign finance reform work for you? Do the operating rules of your legislature need to be changed? If you have a request for us or if you would like to post on Voters.Army, please send a message to services4pols@voters.army.
Multi Party Election Reform?
As a busy politician, you may not have considered multi-party election reform. You are successful in the current system. Why change? Support of multi-party election reform is not required for our help. We ask only for a commitment to economic reform.
Two-party systems can work if parties get along. If they do not, a cycle of increasing conflict develops. That is where we stand today.
Please consider a few questions:
-
When you first dreamed of holding public office, did you imagine spending most of your time asking for money?
-
Do the policies and actions of either the Democratic or Republican party reflect your values and the values of your constituents?
-
Does our political system help you work for your constituents?
-
Does the system accurately represent the voters?
-
Does the system work for the American people?
-
As each election becomes more hostile, can the union survive?
You and Your Colleagues Deserve Better
The goal is a political system that works. Our two-party system has devolved into open warfare. You deserve fair elections and more parties to choose from. Your legislature should not be ruled by a few people. You should have opportunities to build coalitions.
Voters deserve a system that represents their views and interests. We all need civil election campaigns.
Election Reforms for a Strong Democracy
Traditional Choose 1 plurality voting is prone to vote splitting and spoilers. Voters seldom vote for third-party candidates for fear of the spoiler effect. Two-party rule is locked in. Ranked Choice Voting is also prone to spoilers.
We advocate for reliable rated methods like Score, Star and BTR-Score. Voters can rate all candidates; they need not fear spoilers. Third party and unaffiliated candidates have a fair chance and a true voice. Candidates will need to avoid low scores; this creates an incentive for civility. Campaigns will calm down.
Two parties cannot represent 346,000,000 people. Voters and politicians need more parties to choose from. A party that wins 40% of the vote, should get 40% of the seats. Fair political systems use Proportional Representation. PR will make all elections competitive and end gerrymandering as we know it.
Freedom
Politicians, free yourselves from the shackles of a dysfunctional two-party system and build a new political system that works for the citizens of America. You can do it! You have more people in positions of power than the abolitionist, women’s suffrage, civil rights, and gay rights movements combined. History teaches that the first step is to show pride in your noble vocation. Your example will inspire young people to follow in your footsteps.
We need politicians from all parties to sponsor multi-party election reform. Election reform is your issue. Show the voters that you are working for them, not the status quo.
Yes, the Economy is the Urgent Issue
